Identification of functional probes for the entire human proteome using conventional microplate-based high-throughput screening (HTS) is a daunting challenge that will take decades and cost billions of dollars. Since its inception, the Molecular Libraries Program (MLP) has discovered ~200 probes at a cost of roughly $2 million per probe. To put this in perspective, it is estimated that probing the entire human proteome will require ~50-100k selective molecules. We are engineering miniaturized "next-generation" systems that will accelerate the pace of discovery and decrease the cost by screening one-bead-one-compound (OBOC) libraries at > 50k molecules per hour.
